Historical highlights

One of the largest historic neighborhoods, the Lincoln area takes its name from the old Lincoln School, once located at 14th and Salem. The homes in this area range from single family to duplexes, and from simple cottage styles to ornate, Victorian structures. At the heart of this scenic neighborhood lies a historical jewel, the Greenbush Cemetery, situated on tree-shaded grounds at Ninth and Greenbush Streets. A walk through its rambling paths leads past the tall gravestone of the city's founder, William Digby. Further along the way, a carved rock grave marker notes the resting place of Caleb Scudder, the first male child born in Lafayette.

Today, the streets surrounding Greenbush Cemetery are vibrant with the energy of the Lincoln Neighborhood's new residents and businesses.

Other neighborhood features

The Lincoln Neighborhood is within close proximity of the many retailers located at Market Square Shopping Center, 2200 Elmwood Avenue, and the Market Square movie theaters. The Linnwood shopping area features an antique store. Two Village Pantry convenience stores are also located in the area.

Neighborhood Association

The Lincoln Neighborhood Association was organized in 1993 by a group of long-time residents. The group works to encourage quality, single-family housing among other neighborhood improvements.

The association's primary project in the last two years has been the establishment of a neighborhood plan to serve as a guideline for the city to use when considering new developments. Group expansion is also a major goal. The association meets bi-monthly.
